This free rune reading for love draws one Elder Futhark rune, upright or reversed, as an answer to a question about your relationship. Think of your question, press the button once, and read the meaning below the rune.

How to ask

A good love question is open and about you, not about controlling someone else. "What do I need to understand about this relationship?" or "What can I bring to this connection right now?" will give you more to work with than "Does he love me?" The rune speaks best to your side of the situation, because that is the side you can actually change.

A few questions that work well for a one-rune love reading:

  • What is the main energy in my relationship right now?

  • What is blocking closeness between us, and what can I do about it?

  • What should I keep in mind before this conversation or date?

  • What do I need to heal before I open up to someone new?

  • What is this connection teaching me?

Take a breath before you draw, keep the question in mind, and draw only once. Pulling rune after rune until you see the one you wanted turns the reading into a slot machine. If the answer feels unclear, write it down and come back to it tomorrow instead.

An honest note: runes are a tool for reflection, not a verdict on fate. A love reading cannot tell you what another person thinks or decide your future for you. In my practice, its value is that it gives you a symbol to look through, and that new angle often shows what you already half knew. If you want to understand the method behind it, read how to draw runes and the overview of all 24 rune meanings.

What each rune means in a love reading

Most divinatory meanings below come from modern practice, built on the traditional names and themes of the runes. Read the whole entry for your rune, not just the first line, and notice which sentence lands. Nine runes are symmetrical, which means they look the same either way up, so they have no reversed position. For a deeper look at reversed meanings in general, see reversed runes meaning.

Fehu (ᚠ). Upright: Love is being given and received freely, and there is real warmth to share. You have something valuable here, so tend it rather than take it for granted. Reversed: Something is being spent faster than it is replenished, whether attention, affection or patience. Look at what you give and what comes back, and notice where the balance has slipped.

Uruz (ᚢ). Upright: There is strong physical attraction and raw vitality between you. This is a connection with energy behind it, and it asks you to show up with your whole self. Reversed: Energy is low or pushed in the wrong direction, and passion may be turning into pressure. Rest, look after your own health, and avoid forcing intensity that isn't there.

Thurisaz (ᚦ). Upright: A boundary or a hard conversation is close. Speaking honestly now can protect the relationship, as long as you do it without trying to win. Reversed: Defensiveness, sharp words or reacting too quickly. Pause before you answer, because a thorn thrown in anger tends to stay in the wound.

Ansuz (ᚨ). Upright: Communication is the key: say what you feel and listen to what is actually being said. A message, a conversation or an honest letter may open things up. Reversed: Mixed signals, misunderstandings or words that hide more than they reveal. Ask directly instead of guessing, and don't rely on what others tell you about this person.

Raido (ᚱ). Upright: The relationship is moving, perhaps toward a trip together, a move or a new stage. Things fall into rhythm when you travel the same road at the same pace. Reversed: You may be out of step, or one of you wants to go somewhere the other doesn't. Talk about direction before you invest more in the journey.

Kenaz (ᚲ). Upright: A spark of desire, creativity and clarity. You can see the situation, and the other person, more clearly now, and that warmth is worth following. Reversed: The flame is dimming or you are not seeing clearly. Ask what has gone out of the connection, and whether you are holding on to a picture that no longer matches the person.

Gebo (ᚷ). A true partnership of giving and receiving, where both people offer something and neither loses themselves. Commitment, an offer or a meaningful gesture may be on the table, and the healthiest version keeps a little space between you. Gebo has no reversed position.

Wunjo (ᚹ). Upright: Joy, harmony and the simple pleasure of being together. You feel at home with each other, and this is a time to enjoy that rather than analyse it. Reversed: Disappointment or the sense that happiness depends on the other person changing. Look for the source of joy you can create yourself, inside or outside the relationship.

Hagalaz (ᚺ). A sudden disruption, like a hailstorm: news, a crisis or an old issue breaking through. It is not pleasant, but it clears the air, and what survives it is usually stronger. Hagalaz has no reversed position.

Nauthiz (ᚾ). Need, longing or a feeling that something is missing. Ask yourself what you truly need rather than what you crave, and be patient with the restriction you are feeling now. Nauthiz has no reversed position.

Isa (ᛁ). Things are frozen: no movement, distance, or feelings that are on hold. Don't force a thaw; use this stillness to understand what you want before the situation moves again. Isa has no reversed position.

Jera (ᛃ). Patience pays off. What you have planted in this relationship is ripening in its own season, and steady care brings its harvest. Jera has no reversed position.

Eihwaz (ᛇ). Endurance and depth. The connection can weather a hard stretch if both of you stay rooted, and old bonds may return or deepen. Eihwaz has no reversed position.

Perthro (ᛈ). Upright: Mystery, chance and things not yet revealed. There may be a pleasant surprise, a secret or an unexpected meeting; keep an open mind. Reversed: Something is hidden that you would rather not see, or you are leaving too much to chance. Bring things into the light before you decide.

Algiz (ᛉ). Upright: Protection and care. You feel safe with this person, or you are being encouraged to protect your heart wisely, not by shutting it. Reversed: Your guard is either too low or too high. Notice whether you are ignoring warning signs or keeping out someone who means you well.

Sowilo (ᛊ). Clarity, warmth and success. Things light up, confidence returns, and the relationship moves forward in a bright, honest direction. Sowilo has no reversed position.

Tiwaz (ᛏ). Upright: Commitment, loyalty and doing the right thing even when it costs something. In a love reading it can also point to a devoted, principled partner. Reversed: Imbalance, one-sided sacrifice or a fight you cannot win. Ask whether you are giving more than is fair, and whether this is worth the cost.

Berkana (ᛒ). Upright: Nurturing, growth and new beginnings. Tenderness, caring for each other, and sometimes family or a fresh start are in focus. Reversed: Smothering, neglecting yourself or growth that is stuck. Give the relationship room to breathe and turn some of that care back toward yourself.

Ehwaz (ᛖ). Upright: Partnership, trust and moving together like horse and rider. You are well matched and can make real progress as a team. Reversed: Restlessness, mistrust or pulling in different directions. Talk about whether you still want to go the same way.

Mannaz (ᛗ). Upright: Mutual understanding and seeing each other as you really are. Friendship is the base under this love, and honesty with yourself matters as much as with the other person. Reversed: Projection, isolation or seeing the other person through your own fears. Step back and look at what is actually happening, not at what you expect.

Laguz (ᛚ). Upright: Emotions run deep and intuition is strong. Trust your feelings, follow the flow, and let the relationship move naturally. Reversed: Emotional confusion, overwhelm or being swept along. Find some solid ground before you make choices from a flood of feeling.

Ingwaz (ᛜ). A period of gestation that leads to completion: something is ready to begin or to settle into a new, more stable form. Plans for the future together, home or a deeper commitment are favoured. Ingwaz has no reversed position.

Othala (ᛟ). Upright: Home, belonging and shared values. Family, a shared space or long-term stability is the theme, and you may feel truly at home with this person. Reversed: Old family patterns, attachments to the past or disagreements about home and values. Notice what you inherited and decide what you want to keep.

Dagaz (ᛞ). Breakthrough and a new dawn. Clarity arrives, the mood shifts, and you can see the relationship in a completely new light. Dagaz has no reversed position.

How to read your result

Start with your first reaction. Before you read the text, notice whether the rune felt like relief, a warning or a question back at you, because that reaction is part of the reading. Then read the meaning and ask where it touches your real situation: a conversation, a habit, a need you have not voiced.

A reversed rune is not a bad omen. It usually points to a blocked, excessive or inward-turned version of the same energy, which is useful information about what needs attention. A "heavy" rune like Hagalaz or Isa is a description of the weather, not a sentence. Seasons change, and so do relationships.

Finally, turn the reading into one small action. If you drew Ansuz, have the conversation; if you drew Isa, give yourself a week before you decide anything. If you want to go further with love work, the guide to the love rune explains which runes practitioners use for attraction and harmony.

FAQ

Can a rune tell me if someone loves me?

No reading can see inside another person's heart, and I would be wary of anyone who claims otherwise. What the rune can do is show the state of the connection as you experience it and what you could do about it. Ask about your part of the relationship and you'll get a more useful answer.

A reversed rune usually shows the same theme as the upright one, but blocked, overdone or turned inward. It is a sign to pay attention, not a prediction of a breakup. Symmetrical runes such as Gebo or Ingwaz cannot be reversed at all.

Once per question is the best rule. If the situation changes, or a few days pass and you have a new question, draw again. Repeating the same question within minutes only adds noise.

One rune gives a clear focus and works well for day-to-day questions. For a fuller picture, a three-rune spread shows the past, present and what's coming; you can try it in the three-rune reading for the future. For complex situations, a personal reading looks at the whole context.

Yes. Ask about your own readiness, what you are looking for or what keeps repeating in your past relationships. A single person's love reading is often the most useful kind, because it is entirely about choices you control. Kenaz, Wunjo or Berkana in that context usually point to opening up and taking care of yourself first.

Runes can help you reflect, but a decision this important deserves more than a single symbol. Talk to people you trust and, if the relationship involves harm or fear, contact a professional or a support service. Runes complement real-world help; they do not replace it.
